Bulldog Mixes

Bulldog Mixes
Australian BulldogThere are many bulldog breed mixes around today. Some of these breeds such as the Shorty Bull and the American Bully, are very new but recognized and coveted.

Bulldog mixing is nothing new. Back in the day dogs were mixed to get the best of several worlds. The American Pitbull Terrier was originally a mix of Bulldog and Terrier. They were primarily mixed to get the gameness and agility of the terrier but the strength and athletic abilities of the bulldog. In those days, how a dog looked was not so high on the chart. Confirmation and performance were the main characteristics that were bred for.

Mixed Bully Breed Dogs Today.
Moving 100 years forward, many breeders are not breeding for the same qualities as they did long ago. Breeders today experiment mostly for the sake of looks.
Somehow, thick, wide and blocky, has come home to rule the roost. In fact, the tables have totally turned. Performance, which is what Bulldogs were initially
bred for, seems to be the last thing on people’s minds. The internet age has opened up a whole new world where images rule. Even though I love the Bull breeds, I can’t help but wonder sometimes about the thought process of the new age breeder. I have to confess, it really baffles me! What is this lure that even I cannot seem to avoid?

Let’s look at some of the bulldog mixes of yesterday and today.

Old English Bulldog: Some of the breeds used in making this fine breed include, Old Mastiff or Alaunt, and, believe it or not, the greyhound.

Victorian Bulldog: Ancestors of this outstanding dog includes but is not limited to. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bullmastiff, Bull Terriers and English Bulldogs.

Shorty Bull: Coming Soon!!

Frenchie Bull: Coming Soon!!

American Bully: It’s origin is debatable. This dog is a mixture of several Bully breeds including, the American Pitbull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, in some cases Mastiffs, French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs.

Olde English Bulldogge: Like many Bully breeds, the origin of this dog is not clear. Present literature on it’s dog in it’s origin includes, but is not limited to, the English Bulldog and the American Bulldog.

Alapaha Blueblood Bulldog: This dog has been linked to the American Pitbull Terrier, Black Mouth Cur, Catahoula Leopard Dog and further back the Mountain Bulldog, Old Southern White and Old Country (Big) Bulldog.

American Bandogge: A mixture of Mastiff and Bulldog types.

Banter Bulldog: The Banter Bulldogge’s foundation come from the English Bulldog, Boxer Dog, Bull Mastiff, Great Dane, American Bulldog, and the American Staffordshire Terrier.

Aussie / Australian Bulldog Bulldog:

Valley Bulldog: This breed is a mixture of Bulldog and Boxer.

So there are many dogs that make up many breeds. In the end, lovers of the Bull breeds are all looking for the same thing. A breed that indicates strength and determination. It really does not matter if the dogs will ever get a chance to display their abilities, as long as the stigma stays..
